1. Aqueduct, shopping & art in Håverud
The Håverud Aqueduct is Dalsland’s most visited attraction. A magnificent feat of civil engineering, complete with its dramatic lock staircase and steep drop. Be sure to visit Dalslands Center, which houses a tourist information office, a shop and a food market. Enjoy a delicious meal at Håveruds Rökeri & Brasseri and discover the history of the Dalsland Canal at the Canal Museum.

Dalsland Art Museum in Upperud, about 2 km from the aqueduct, offers current exhibitions and a permanent exhibition on Dalsland. Finish off with a coffee and cake at the museum’s café, Bonaparte.
Here you’ll find two fantastic hotels. Håveruds Hotell, with lake views and good food. Upperud 9:9 is the hundred-year-old silo that has been transformed into a unique hotel with music events and a sauna.
2. Herb garden & the small trainstation in Dals Rostock
In the vibrant Dals Rostock, an old spa destination, just outside Mellerud, history blends with culture, events and beautiful natural surroundings. In Brunnsparken you’ll find the herb garden, local history museum, café, second-hand bookshop, vintage shop and Kerstin Ljungqvist’s studio. Borrow a key from Byxfixans Livs and step inside the charming station house, built on a scale half the size of the original building.

Stroll along Doktor Saedén’s Trail, a unique, approximately 2.7 km-long cultural trail featuring 22 historical, imaginative monuments.

With magical views over Bengtsfors and Lake Lelång from the very top of Majberget, you’ll find two of Dalsland’s most popular museums.
At Halmens hus (the house of straw), you can experience the story of why straw has become so significant in Dalsland all year round, alongside a fantastic craft shop. The Gammelgården open-air museum consists of over 20 historic buildings collected from across Dalsland. In summer, guided tours are available, as well as a cosy summer café on the hill.

Bengtsfors has a lively town centre with many lovely restaurants and shops. If you like cocktails, Storgatan 19 Kök & Bar is an absolute must.
Visit the Dals Konfektyr candy factory, where you can buy really fresh sweets in the factory shop.
Go biking on a Trolly (dressin) along the old railway track between Bengtsfors and Årjäng with DVVJ.
Treat a moose to a tasty snack at the Dalslands Moose Ranch whilst learning all about the king of the forest – perfect for young and old alike.
Ed has plenty of lovely restaurants and several second-hand shops in the town centre, nestled between the Lakes Stora and Lilla Le, which offer stunning views.

Not far from Ed, you’ll find Tresticklan National Park. Unspoilt wilderness and exciting hiking in the borderlands with Norway.
Enjoy good food during your visit to Ed – Local IDIOT is the local neighbourhood pub with a lovely atmosphere. If you like burgers and milkshakes, the American-inspired V8 Garage Bar is well worth a visit.

In Fröskog, a few kilometres from Fengersfors, you’ll find a cut-flower nursery, farm shop and summer café at Fröbacken farm.
Stay in style at one of the many B&Bs in Fröskog. These include Villa WeidlingB&B. A perfect base for culture and hiking.
Four beautiful hiking trails under the name ‘Vandra i Ronjaland’ start in Fröskog. The trails offer stunning views and locations where parts of the film ‘Ronia the Robber’s Daughter’ (1984) were filmed.
6. Åmål - the only city in Dalsland
In Åmål, Lake Vänern runs right through the town, with a guest harbour right in the centre. Åmål is an old market town that was granted town privileges in 1643. You can feel the breath of history in the Old Town, the neighbourhood that escaped the great fire of 1901, with its 18th-century houses and parks. Shop and enjoy a good meal at one of the many restaurants and cafés.

Start your hike from Ragnerud Hiking Destination. The campsite on the shores of Lake Ragnerud. Stay in a cosy cottage, enjoy a delicious meal at their top-class restaurant, Ragnerud Kök, and explore the beautiful surroundings.

8. Dalslands Aktiviteter
One of Northern Europe’s largest facilities for outdoor experiences and adventures in the woods and countryside. Here you can enjoy everything from zip lines and high ropes courses to horse riding, obstacle courses and moose feeding. Enjoy a delicious meal at the Stenebygrytan restaurant or learn how to light a fire and cook over an open flame.

Visit the small delicatessen Dalslands Vilt, where you can buy locally produced products made from elk, deer, wild boar and mouflon.
There are two cafés in the area – Stenebylängan, where you can enjoy a coffee break with a view of the elk enclosure. A few kilometres further on is Norebyns café & camp, offering home-baked goods and lake views.
A 253-kilometre-long waterway system, considered one of Europe’s most beautiful waterways. 31 locks at 17 lock stations. A dream for boat lovers! The Dalsland Canal is not a straight canal, but connects Lake Vänern with Ed, Årjäng, Bengtsfors and Håverud, amongst other places.
4 ways to experience the Dalsland Canal
Come with you boat – simply buy your lock tickets online and experience Dalsland from the water in your own boat.
Coffee and cake at a lock café – Visit the lock cafés in Köpmannebro, Långbron and Lennartsfors and enjoy delicious canal ice cream. The café in Långbron, just outside Dals-Långed, also serves waffles – a real summer gem.
Take a trip by canal boat - Two tour boats take passangers along the canal during the summer. Boat one way, train back to were you started. Book a nice lunch omboard.
