A circuit for anyone who’s not keen on hills

Here you go then. A nice gravel route for anyone who doesn’t like tough climbs but still wants to have a fun challenge. As you can see from the elevation profile at the bottom of the map there are a couple of climbs, but on the whole the route is less hilly than many of our other routes of the same length.

The route starts in Bäckefors in the municipality of Bengtsfors and keeps going west through Dals-Ed, in an area that for many is relatively unknown.

Golden fields and green forests

Here in the southwest corner of Dalsland there aren’t as many lakes, but you’ll cycle to start off with past one of Västra Götaland’s finest wetland areas, Öjemossen. If you look to the left you’ll be able to see it.

You’ll soon notice how quiet it is out on the gravel roads. Not much car traffic, just peaceful forests and idyllic farmland dotted with red cottages. Really lovely gravel roads to cycle.

Stop for a fika in Ed

After around 30 km of cycling you’ll get to Ed, a pretty lakeside town. You can stop for something to eat at Dalslands Moose Ranch or Gröne Backe Camping. Remember to check their opening times when you plan your ride.

If vintage and retro are your thing then have a look at Tingvalla Antik och Loppis just after you’ve cycled past Tingvallamossen. Lastly there’s a slightly taxing climb before you arrive back in Bäckefors, but don’t worry, there’s no shame in walking up it if you’re tired.

In Bäckefors you can have a look at Bäckefors Bruk, the ruins of the town’s old ironworks, and visit the Brukskällan microbrewery. Hope you have a lovely ride!
