Fact about the trail

Length:

Approximately 26 kilometres, of which around 7 kilometres on asphalt and the rest on gravel roads.

Approximate times:

Approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes.

Area:

On both the PDF and digital maps, you’ll find suggestions for interesting stops along the way — such as sights, farm shops, cafés and lookouts — to make your cycling experience even more enjoyable. You can choose to stop or enjoy the ride as the experience itself.

Think about:

  • Always take great care when using fire. Use designated fire pits only and make sure the fire is fully extinguished. Fire bans always apply in nature reserves and may also be in force across the entire region during dry periods.
  • Do not litter. Use the rubbish bins provided along the trail.
  • Off-road driving is prohibited in nature and on marked trails.
  • Show consideration for local residents and stay on the trail.
  • Avoid hiking during the moose hunting season.
  • Do not walk across fields with growing crops.
  • Fishing is only permitted with a valid fishing permit or the landowner’s consent.

WHAT TO PACK

  • Clothing: Check the weather forecast and dress in layers — you warm up when cycling and cool down quickly when you stop. Consider packing something warmer for breaks.

  • Food & Drink: Bring sufficient water and snacks depending on how many stops you plan to make. You can buy ready-made kits from Whatsup Rental/Biergarten or pick up local delicacies from cafés in Hjo.

Security:

You will mainly be cycling on gravel roads, where there may be some traffic, occasionally including tractors. There is a moderate amount of traffic on the paved country road Jönköpingsvägen for approximately 2–3 kilometres at the start of the route. For a safer ride, feel free to dismount when vehicles pass. On our printer-friendly map, you can see the types of roads you will be cycling on.

Marking:

The route is not waymarked on the ground. Use the downloadable or digital map to navigate.

Level of difficulty:

MODERATE
This is a moderately challenging cycling route. We recommend starting towards Norra Hulan/southbound (Jönköpingsvägen). This makes the ride demanding for the first 7–8 kilometres; after this section, the route becomes more level and largely downhill. If you choose the opposite direction, expect some uphill stretches and a few flat sections, followed by the final 7–8 kilometres downhill.

Start and end:

Begin and end your tour at the car park behind Kulturkvarteret Pedagogien in Hjo, where free long-stay parking is available.

How to get here:

  • By Bus: Buses to Hjo (Västtrafik lines 402 and 405).
  • By Car: Hjo is about 40 minutes north of Jönköping, 30 minutes east of Skövde and just under two hours south of Örebro.
