Touring the country side offers enriching experiences also. Blomsholm has the finest cultural heritage site in the province with a large stone ship and a grave field. You can hike on many established trails and perhaps follow the route of King Charles XII, when he was about to invade the nearby Norwegian fort in the 18th century. Enjoy the fjord landscape’s distinctive character along the Idefjorden and make a stop in Krokstrand, known for its stone masonry. In Skee you find a medieval church surrounded by a well-tended, typical churchyard.
