Before Christmas it's popular to bake at home and explore new recipes. More and more people avoid the baking stress by buying tasty homemade breads and pastries from Grebbestads cute little café and bakery Sjögrens i Backen.

The most popular items at Sjögrens are "vörtbröd" and "mandelmussla". "Lussekatter" is something that is often baked at home but when it comes to Christmas bread and marzipan most people want the real deal". The "Mandelmussla" is the owner Kikki Sjögrens own recipe. Try it yourself by following the recipe or try it by adding nuts or other ingredients of your choice. It is a classic pastry that is perfect for Christmas. An advantage is that it is rather small which makes it easier to eat and a little bit healthier.

The Christmas classics are the most popular items that people buy at that time of the year. Between Christmas and New Years they arrange "julmys" when you can visit them and eat traditional Christmas food such as "Janssons frestelse", meatballs and "prince-sausages". This event is very appreciated by both locals and visitors.

For those who like to bake at home "lussekatter" is perfect for the whole family. If you are curious and like to experiment you can try to bake with different spices.

- I usually bake a light bread where I use half a teaspoon of fennel. I like using milk and butter for baking to get that homemade flavour, Kikki tells us.
