Take the car or the bus, pack your picnic basket, and head out for an excursion in our surroundings. Here we suggest pleasant destinations in our nearby areas.

Strömstad and Koster islands
Cozy Strömstad is bustling with life and activity all year round. Shop in small authentic stores, stroll along the cobblestone streets in the old quarters, or wander along the waterfront where boats depart for Koster and Hvaler. Take a trip to lovely Koster islands and enjoy the tranquility and calmness far from cars and traffic. Rent a bike or kayak and discover the best of northern Bohuslän. Taste local delicacies in one of the restaurants or farm shops here.

Nordens Ark
The zoological nature park at Åby säteri in Bohuslän works to save and preserve endangered animals. Most of them come from a climate similar to ours in the Nordic region. Here, for example, live snow leopards, Amur tigers, Amur leopards, wolves, lynxes, wolverines, and red pandas, but also birds, amphibians, and old Nordic breeds. The park is open to visitors every day of the year. There are guided tours and children's activities.

Find it here: Drive E6 towards Gothenburg and follow signs to Nordens Ark (Smögen & Kungshamn), about 7 km one way. www.nordensark.se

Vitlycke Rock Carvings
In the Tanum World Heritage Area lies the Vitlycke Museum, a visitor facility with a theme of rock carvings and the Bronze Age. Here, you'll find exhibitions, a reconstructed Bronze Age farm, and Vitlyckehällen, one of Sweden's largest with almost 500 carvings. During the summer, various activities and guided tours are offered. You can also discover the Tanum World Heritage Site on your own, for example, Hiking in the World Heritage, a 6 km long hiking trail that takes you to the rock carvings at Lövåsen, Gerum, and Sotetorp.

Find it here: Vitlycke Museum is located 1 km south of Tanumshede in northern Bohuslän. From the E6, take off towards Tanumshede. Follow signs from Tanums church. Open May-Oct. www.vitlyckemuseum.se

Havets Hus
Here you can meet everything from octopuses to small-spotted catsharks. All animals are local species from the North Sea, which can sometimes be hard to believe. Feel the animals in petting tanks, be surrounded by the North Sea in the tunnel aquarium, and Children's Seagrass Meadow invites to fun discoveries. Open daily between February-October and every weekend year-round.

Find it here: From Strömstad, drive E6 towards Gothenburg, signposted Lysekil shortly after Dingle, continue road 162 and Havets Hus is located right on the quayside in Lysekil about 95 km one way. www.havetshus.se/

Dalsland Canal and Aqueduct in Håverud
The Dalsland Canal is a beautiful, 250 km long lake system between Lake Vänern and the Norwegian border, and the aqueduct in Håverud completed in 1868 is undoubtedly the historical gem of the Dalsland Canal. A unique construction by Nils Ericson and engineering at a high level. Follow the boats' journey through the locks and over the rapids up close. Have a coffee or enjoy the Brasserie's good fish dishes right by the canal. Here you will also find the glassblower, art exhibitions, handicraft sales, and a nice little canal museum. If you want to travel on beautiful waters, choose the Dalsland Canal. Passenger boats operate on the canal from May to September.

Find it here: E6 south to Skee, from here continue on road 164, about 15 km south of Bengtsfors turn right towards Dals Långed and continue this road about 26 km, then you will arrive at Håverud. www.dalsland.com
