Innovative art, traditional handicrafts, modern design, medieval church paintings, the finest cultivated plants and the wingbeats of history. We have put together six suggested day tours for those who want to explore the art and culture of Dalsland. Tour nr. 2 takes you to through Färgelanda and Bäckefors.

Places to visit along the tour

Ödeborg Fornsal

 Färgelanda
Ödeborg Fornsal is a pre-industrial museum style with exhibits ranging from a hide of the extinct Dalsland mastiff to the axe used for the last execution in Dalsland in 1830.

Färgelanda konsthall

Färgelanda konsthall (art gallery) is on the upper floor of Centrumhuset, above the library, and holds eight to ten exhibitions each year.

Blanketorpet

 Färgelanda
Blanketorpet was built in 1824 and has a garden surrounded by a 300-metre-long stone wall. The open-air museum holds regular events.

Stigens herrgård

During the 19th century Maria Andersson developed weaving techniques at Stigens Herrgård (Stigen manor) into a flourishing weaving industry in the region. The manor rents out rooms or the entire manor for events.

Högsäter kyrka

 Färgelanda
Högsäter kyrka known locally as the Cathedral at Dal, was built in the early 20th century to replace an earlier medieval church that had become too small. It was designed by Adrian Crispin Peterson, one of the leading architects of the time.

Ragneruds kök offers appetising meals prepared from organic and local produce. Tasting menu, coffee, hiking lunch or family dinner – you choose whichever suits the occasion.

Järbo kyrka

The cemetery at Järbo Kyrka is the final resting place of Georgetta Carolina who died at just 8 months old, the unknown daughter of Georg Carl von Döbeln.

Vinnsäter

 Färgelanda, Järbo
Vinnsäter is a well-preserved Dalsland farm dating from the 19th century. There is a school museum in the barn and regular events are held during the summer.

Bäckefors bruk

 Bäckefors, Bengtsfors
Bäckefors bruk was one of the largest ironworks in Sweden in the 19th century. There is a bathing spot just a short walk from the ruins and along the road towards the centre is Brukskällan Bryggeri, beer has been made in Bäckefors since 1820s.

Rännelanda kyrka

 Färgelanda
The madonna niche in Rännelanda Kyrka came from the earlier church that had stood here since the 12th century. The font and crucifix also date from the original medieval church.
