An easily cycled circular

Here's a little present, a day off from tough hills! This is a flat cycle route for anyone who’s worn out after long rides in the hilly scenery of northern Dalsland. The tour is perfect as an easier outing after a few days challenging cycling, or if you want to have a go at TT gravel cycling and ride really fast without any demanding hills. It’s also the perfect route for beginners who want to try cycling a bit further without too many climbs.

A nice mix of gravel and asphalt

The ride starts and finishes by the public swimming baths in the town of Mellerud. And talking about swimming, if you ever need a cooling dip along the way there are several beaches at a convenient distance, including Udden’s swimming area, Näs Sandar and Vita Sandar.

When you leave Mellerud behind thirty kilometres of fast cycled gravel roads with a flat elevation profile await. The surface then changes to asphalt and you cycle the last bit along small winding roads with a slightly hillier profile. Certain sections follow the same route as Stage 7 of the Vänerleden.

Enjoy meadows, fields and open vistas

This part of Dalsland is dominated by farmland, with extensive views across open countryside. The fertile land was once the sea floor, and has been worked here for hundreds of years, which makes the area rich in historic sights and stories.

You’ll cycle past, among other things, several old stone churches, a local art gallery and a little country store (which is still open if you need to fill up your energy reserves).

When you are on the way back to Mellerud we warmly recommend a detour to Vita Sandars Camping where there’s a restaurant and a lovely beach. The marina at Sunnanå is also worth a visit, and you’ll find places to eat there as well.
