Art Road Trip Skaraborg - Autumn & Winter
This is the road trip to explore art, crafts and culture during the quieter seasons. The route passes through varied landscapes, taking in historic town centres and the Platåbergen Geopark. Along the way, there are galleries, studios, cafés and places to stay. Travel at your own pace and stop at the places that interest you most.

Art Experience 1 – Galleri Murat, Falköping
Artist Mercedes Murat’s studio and gallery are now located at Agnestad Gård outside Falköping, where she presents her work in glass painting, sculpture and furniture, alongside guest exhibitions focused on glass.
Murat is one of few artists working with the rare technique verre églomisé, in which images are painted in reverse on the back of glass. Using materials such as 24-carat gold and mother-of-pearl, her work achieves a distinctive sense of depth and light.
A compelling place to encounter contemporary art in an intimate rural setting.

Art Experience 2 – Löfwings Ateljé & Krog, Hornborga
Löfwings Ateljé & Krog is home to the gallery and studio of artist Göran Löfwing. His work is inspired by the surrounding countryside and rural life, and is displayed alongside ongoing projects.
There is also a restaurant and art café serving homemade meals and baked goods, with a focus on local and seasonal produce. Löfwings is part of the “Taste of West Sweden” network and also welcomes four-legged guests.
For those wishing to extend their stay, thoughtfully designed accommodation is available close to the gallery.

Art Experience 3 – Rörstrand Museum, Lidköping
Step into three centuries of porcelain history at Rörstrand Museum. This year marks the 300th anniversary of Rörstrand, celebrated with exhibitions and events throughout the year.
Trace the history of Rörstrand from 18th-century faience to modern classics and contemporary design.
The Museum Café serves locally sourced lunches and homemade treats on Rörstrand porcelain.

Art Experience 4 – Skara Stadshotell
Skara Stadshotell combines a redesign of the historic hotel with a collection of around 100 works by Swedish watercolourist Lars Lerin, one of Sweden’s most popular contemporary artists, displayed throughout the hotel’s public spaces.
Dating from 1875, the hotel offers locally inspired cuisine in Restaurant Julia and homemade pastries at Fröken Ljungs Café. Skara Konsthotell is nearby too, making it easy to explore both as part of an art-focused visit to the town.

Art Experience 5 – Skövde Art Museum
Skövde Art Museum presents art from Skaraborg, Sweden and beyond, with a focus on contemporary practice and critically engaged perspectives.
Temporary exhibitions are shown throughout the year alongside permanent displays of Swedish art from the 20th century to the present. The museum also holds significant collections featuring works by Linda Stein, Anna Sjödahl, Elli Hemberg, Christine Waller and Ester Henning.

Art Experience 6 – The Estrid Ericson Exhibition, Hjo
Kulturkvarteret Pedagogien in Hjo houses a permanent exhibition dedicated to Estrid Ericson, founder of Svenskt Tenn and one of Sweden’s most influential design figures of the 20th century.
The exhibition presents around one hundred objects reflecting her life’s work, from jewellery and everyday objects to furniture and photographs. It traces her journey from growing up in Hjo to establishing Svenskt Tenn in Stockholm, where she helped shape modern Swedish design.
An essential place for those interested in design and Swedish cultural heritage, with free admission year-round.
