Mjöbäck church
Mjöbäck

A church characterised by local crafts

Construction on Mjöbäcks kyrka began in 1851 as the old church, which was on the other side of the road, was deemed no longer fit for purpose. The church's pulpit, floor runners etc. were sourced from the local area.

About the Church

Mjöbäcks kyrka is filled with local crafts. The pulpit, the altarpiece and hymn boards were made by Johannes Johansson in Tokabo, who most probably was assisted by his elderly father, the well-known "pulpit maker" Johannes Andersson in Ölsbo. These talented carpenters from Tokabo have made their mark and been involved in decorating some 40 churches around Sweden.

The font also hails from Tokabo and was donated in the early 1900s by Johannes Bengtsson and his wife Lina in Klackhult, it was manufactured by Carl Johan Johansson, Tokabo.

Other local features are the floor runner, which was woven at Kasthalls in Kinna and designed by textile artist Elisabet Brenner from Holsljunga.
