Ätran trail
Svenljunga
From embankments to larger and smaller, more hilly gravel roads. This trail goes far into nature, in the forest and then into more open cultivation landscapes. Exhale the last part of the trail, on embankments, larger gravel roads and smaller asphalt roads.
STAGE 1, Svenljunga town square-Snärsbo, ca 10 km
Starting at Svenljunga town square bike to the left towards the west on Kinnagatan (road number
156) towards Skene. Take a right at the first crosswalk onto the old railway embankment and
follow the signs for the bike trail Sjuhäradsrundan (Sjuhärad Circular Bike Trail). The trail is easy
to cycle and leads through an open landscape. Follow the railway embankment. Shortly before
Ringestena the railway embankment crosses path with a road, continue past this intersection and
leave the railway embankment at the first opportunity to the left. After about 200 m on a gravel
road you will pass an old barn on your right. At the end of the gravel road turn to the right and
then immediately to the left at the sign Roasjö 10, the bike trail Västgötaleden also follows this
trail. The asphalt road turns into a gravel road which you will follow for almost 4 km. The gravel
road ends in a T-junction called Roasjö-Sexdrega, take a left here toward Roasjö 5. Continue for
700 m and take a right at the yellow sign Stora Snärsbo 1.
STAGE 2, Snärsbo-Sexdrega, ca 10 km
After turning right towards Stora Snärsbo 1 the road turns into a gravel road, follow it for 800m
and then turn right at the yellow sign Kruketorp 1. The trail leads uphill through beautiful nature,
mostly deciduous forest. After approximately 1 km you will reach an intersection by a farm, continue straight through it, the road will be slimming down. Follow this hilly gravel road for 3 km to
the T-junction by Handbynäs and take a right here. Now you will follow the road Ljushultsvägen
straight towards Sexdrega and reach the village after about 5 km.
STAGE 3, Sexdrega-old railway embankment, ca 8 km
Follow the Ljushultsvägen until you reach a T-junction in the village Sexdrega, here take a right,
to the south, towards the church. Along this road you will on your right hand side pass the museum of liquors, Åkersta Vin och Spirituosa Museum. At the church keep to the left and turn right
after the church back onto the bike trail atop the old railway embankment and follow it back
towards Svenljunga.
STAGE 4, Old railway embankment-Svenljunga, ca 7 km
As the railway embankment crosses a road you leave it to follow the road, keep to the left. Cross the river Ätran on the bridge and follow the road, take a left by the sign Mårtenstorp 1. Directly after the exit the road parts, take the right. Cycling between a few houses you will then cross a large road and follow the sign Ullasjö 1 to the right. Now you will pass several horse farms and if you are lucky you might see a foal. Follow Ullasjövägen and take a sharp right turn at the lake Ullasjön. To your right you can see a big runestone underneath the gavel of a yellow house.
Continue along the road until you reach the big road and can see Svenljunga church in front of you.
TIP
Take off to the left (see map), to Bynanders Motormuseum, www.bynandersmotormuseum.se, here
you can have a fika - coffee and cake or something light to eat – and marvel at old cars and motorbikes. Additional ca 2 km back and forth. Take to the right and cycle straight through the roundabout back to Svenljunga town square.

Svenljunga is located along county roads 154 and 156. From Borås you can take a bus to Svenljunga bus station.
