Good services at the start point

This circular starts and ends at Forsbacka Golfklubb where you’ll find a hotel and restaurant, and access to convenient services like parking, food and showers, as well. There are also pitches for anyone travelling by motorhome.

Like many of the other routes in this area you’ll be cycling by lakes, in magical forests, and on small roads with very little traffic – all the things that have made gravel cycling in Dalsland so incredibly popular.

Two tough peaks

As so often in northern Dalsland the hilly terrain is challenging, and during the ride you’ll conquer two significant climbs, of which Baljåsen is the first. It’s an agonisingly slow climb that starts as soon as you leave Forsbacka, and which lasts on and off for 17 kilometres.  Just keep going!

After that a much needed downhill run to the town of Edleskog awaits. But your rest is short lived, because as soon as you’ve passed the red buildings at Åmåls Skicenter you’re going to regain all the height you just lost. Don’t forget to pat yourself on the back when you get to the top of the route’s other peak, Linheden.

The longed for fika stop

With pleasantly aching legs you’ll get the chance to have lunch or fika in Fengersfors, after 28 kilometres of tough cycling. The charming art collective Not Quite is based here, offering cafe/bistro and bakery in a lovely former cotton mill.

Surfaces along the route are mostly gravel, but around Fengersfors there are asphalted small roads before you turn off onto gravel again. From here on there are no more tough hills and you can more or less coast all the way back.

A great way to end the ride is with a dip in Lake Nedre Kalven before dinner in the restaurant at Forsbacka.
