Art Road Trip Skaraborg - Spring & Summer
This is the road trip for anyone with an interest in art, crafts and culture. Along the way you’ll discover galleries, studios and museums, showcasing historical stories and contemporary work. The route takes you through varied landscapes, shaped by small towns, picturesque quarters and the UNESCO-designated Platåbergen Geopark. Art Experience 1 – Smedja Therese / Skulpturpark Ouroboros
At the foot of Kinnekulle, Skulpturpark Ouroboros and Smedja Therese sit within a colourful garden in the Vänerskärgården–Kinnekulle Biosphere Reserve. Together, they bring art, craftsmanship and nature into close dialogue.
The sculpture park changes each year as new artists are invited to exhibit their work throughout the garden. In the forge, Therese and Niclas Engdahl create distinctive metal pieces, ranging from sculptures and jewellery to striking objects for home and garden.
There is also a small shop and Café Nyfiket, where you can pause for coffee and a homemade treat.

Art Experience 2 – Falkängen Craft Village, Hällekis
Falkängen Craft Village sits within the historic industrial setting of Hällekis – a living heritage site where art and craftsmanship fill the former workers’ cottages along the main street.
You’ll find artisan shops, a gallery, and an environment shaped by more than a century of history. Craftspeople from across Sweden exhibit and sell their work in the carefully restored cottages dating from the early 1900s.
There is also a café, accommodation and several small museums offering insight into the area’s industrial heritage and everyday working life.

Art Experience 3 – Svenstorp Art Center, Götene
At Svenstorp Art Center, surreal photography meets local history and personal storytelling. The centre houses a permanent exhibition by internationally renowned artist Erik Johansson, whose dreamlike compositions blur the line between reality and imagination.
Many of the works were created in the surrounding landscape, giving the exhibition a direct connection to its setting. Each year, a guest exhibition explores the transformation of the farm from agriculture to art centre.
There is also a café serving homemade pastries in a relaxed, creative setting.

Art Experience 4 – Rörstrand Museum, Lidköping
At Rörstrand Museum, you step straight into three centuries of porcelain history. This year marks the 300th anniversary of Rörstrand, celebrated with exhibitions and events throughout the year.
Housed in the former porcelain factory in Lidköping, the museum traces the history of Rörstrand from 18th-century faience to modern classics and contemporary design.
The Rörstrand Museum Café is a bright, relaxed setting where locally sourced lunches and homemade treats are served on Rörstrand porcelain. The café also hosts smaller exhibitions and artistic collaborations, with the iconic “Plate Wall” as a backdrop.

Art Experience 5 – Löfwings Ateljé & Krog, Hornborga
Löfwings Ateljé & Krog is home to the gallery and studio of artist Göran Löfwing. His work is inspired by the surrounding countryside and rural life, and is displayed alongside ongoing projects.
There is also a restaurant and art café serving homemade meals and baked goods, with a focus on local and seasonal produce. Löfwings is part of the “Taste of West Sweden” network and also welcomes four-legged guests.

Art Experience 6 – Skara Konsthotell
At Skara Konsthotell, art, accommodation and dining are integrated throughout the hotel. The hotel’s gallery houses an extensive collection of Swedish art, including works by Anders Zorn, Carl Larsson and Jenny Nyström, and is open to the public free of charge.

Art Experience 8 – The Estrid Ericson Exhibition, Hjo
Kulturkvarteret Pedagogien in Hjo houses a permanent exhibition dedicated to Estrid Ericson, founder of Svenskt Tenn and one of Sweden’s most influential design figures of the 20th century.
The exhibition presents around one hundred objects reflecting her life’s work, from jewellery and everyday objects to furniture and photographs. It traces her journey from growing up in Hjo to establishing Svenskt Tenn in Stockholm, where she helped shape modern Swedish design.
An essential place for those interested in design and Swedish cultural heritage, with free admission year-round.
