Explore the asphalt roads around Vänersborg

This cycle tour starts in the middle of Vänersborg, right outside the Tourist Information Centre to be exact. So it’s perfect if you want to explore what the town has to offer after your ride, but more about that later.

You can forget dreaming about a gentle start, because the toughest climb along the route is actually on the way out of Vänersborg. After that it levels out and you can cycle quicker. The first part of the route is a fun ride along small winding roads surrounded by forest .

Chance for a pit stop in Frändefors

When you’ve rounded the southern part of Lake Stora Hästfjorden, several kilometres of straight, really fast road awaits, with very little car traffic. The view changes here from forest to mostly countryside, with open fields and farmland. The contrast with the hilly landscapes of northern Dalsland is marked.

In the village of Frändefors (a short detour from the route) you’ll get the chance to buy some extra energy or drinks, but not before the 45 km mark so make sure you have plenty with you before you leave Vänersborg.

Get ready for the last hill

The last ten kilometres run parallel with Vänern, Sweden’s largest lake. You won’t be cycling right by the water, but when you get to Ursand Resort & Camping you’ll have the opportunity for a cooling dip from the really lovely beach ther, and you can also get a well deserved fika or ice cream. Just after Ursand there’s the chance for a last push, up a sustained uphill climb that lasts for just over a kilometre.
