Vänersborg
In the summer of 2023, Forum Vänersborg and Artscape, along with local partners, invited renowned mural artists to participate in a world-class street art project. Over two weeks filled with creativity and joy of creation, nine large-scale artworks were erected on selected building facades in the city. The artists used brushes, spray cans, and rollers to create new landmarks in Vänersborg.
The project's creative theme is playful and experimental: An artistic "telephone game" where the creative baton is passed from classical art history to local wordsmiths and further on to mural artists.
The chain began with Artscape selecting nine well-known classical artworks. Nine writers then created texts freely inspired by these works. The texts served as the starting point for the mural artists' work. The result is a collection of large-scale murals in Vänersborg, each with its own chain linking back through art history.
The Artworks
Nine facades around Vänersborg have been transformed, and now top-class art adorns the buildings. Here is a digital map of the artworks, but you can also pick up a physical map at both Trollhättan and Vänersborg tourist offices. Get your map and start your journey through the city to admire and be enchanted by these fantastic works!
