Getting here by bike

Get to Trollhättan and Vänersborg by bike or bring your bike and discover the area with ease on our local bike paths. You can easily get here by following one of the large bike trails in Sweden. At the Tourist Centers in Trollhättan and Vänersborg we have local bike maps for sale.

Getting to Trollhättan and Vänersborg

There are two major Swedish bike trails that cross our area: Sverigeleden and Västgötaleden. Close by you also have the Dalslandleden trail that you can easily reach from Vänersborg. If you are following any of these three paths or if you want to start your biking journey from our area we at the Tourist Center are happy to help you explore our area by bike.

Sverigeleden (The Sweden Trail) - Sverigeleden is a 2620 kilometer long trail that passes through the whole of mainland Sweden as well as Öland island. The trail passes through the Trollhättan and Vänersborg area from Dalsland to the north and then follows Göta River down towards Gothenburg via the town Lilla Edet to the south. If you follow the trail either from north or south you will pass through Vänersborg and just west of Trollhättan, but it is easy to leave the trail for a bit and visit Trollhättan aswell. See the whole of Sverigeleden here.

Västgötaleden (The Västgöta Trail) - Västgötaleden is a 1140 kilometer long trail that goes through the western part of Sweden. The trail passes through our area from the city of Lidköping in the east, between the Halleberg and Hunneberg mountains, via the Brinkebergskulle lock and then south along the Göta River through Trollhättan before going south towards Velanda, Upphärand and then Gothenburg. See the whole Västgötaleden here.

Dalslandsleden (The Dalsland Trail) - Dalslandsleden is a 360 kilometer long trail that goes in the Dalsland area of Sweden, just north of Trollhättan and Vänersborg. The trail passes through Vänersborg from the town of Mellerud to the north and then after passing Vänersborg you go west towards the town of Färgelanda. You can also follow Dalslandsleden from Vänersborg west to the area of Rösebo and from there go on the Uddevalla bike trail that will take you all the way to the city of Uddevalla. See the whole Dalslandsleden here.

You can also follow the new bike road Rälstrampet that goes between Överby Shopping Center just north of Trollhättan to the town of Öxnered, just west of Vänersborg. There is also one local bike trail in our area, the Linnaeus Trail.

The Linnaeus Trail - The famous botanist Carl Linnaeus passed through Trollhättan and Vänersborg on his famous Wästgöta expedition in 1746. You can follow in his footsteps along a 65 kilometers long trail that will take you from Vänersborg to Trollhättan and then past Ecopark Halle- and Hunneberg on your way back to Vänersborg.
