A proud and innovative city with room for the future

Trollhättan’s history is built by people who, together, have shown initiative, courage, innovation and determination — qualities that will also guide us into the future.

About Trollhättan

Trollhättan is an urban area in Västergötland and the administrative centre of Trollhättan Municipality in Västra Götaland County. The city has a rich history, from its origins along the waters of the Göta River to the use of the power of the Trollhättan Falls, which helped develop industries that later grew into iconic companies such as Nohab and Saab. The name Trollhättan comes from the words troll and hätta (“hood”). People once believed trolls lived in the falls and that the small islands rising from the water were their hoods.

Today, Trollhättan remains an innovative city that continues to develop, with something exciting always happening. You can read more about Trollhättan and its attractions here.

Trollhättan offers both residents and visitors a wide range of fun and interesting events all year round — from the grand Fallens Dagar festival in July to smaller, more intimate concerts and markets during the winter season. You can easily keep track of what’s happening in the municipality through our event calendar here.

The municipality of Trollhättan also includes Sjuntorp, Upphärad, Velanda and Väne-Åsaka.

Trollhättan City Hall

Trollhättan City Hall is located at Gärdhemsvägen 9 in central Trollhättan. Current opening hours can be found on the City of Trollhättan’s website. The city hall houses the municipality’s administrations and services, and this is where you can turn if you have questions about municipal operations or if you, as a resident, need assistance with municipal services.
