Hiking by Lake Öresjö
Trollhättan
Close to the beautiful Lake Öresjö lies Munkebo outdoor recreation area. Here you’ll find several trails to explore in the midst of stunning nature. Hike all year round – and even at any time of day – on the area’s reflector-marked trails. After your walk, perhaps a swim in Öresjö or something grilled over the fire would be perfect.
Exercise Trails by Lake Öresjö
Experience peace and quiet on the child-friendly nature trail, or challenge yourself with a run on one of the longer tracks. Munkebo outdoor recreation area is exciting to explore all year round – with rich birdlife in spring, proximity to Öresjö’s swimming areas in summer, an abundance of mushrooms and berries in autumn, and cross-country skiing when the snow arrives.
Just before the entrance to the popular swimming area Munkeboviken, you’ll find maps showing the marked trails and paths. There are day trails of 2.5 km, 3.5 km, 4.3 km, 7 km, and 9 km. From your very first step, you are out in the forest in moderately challenging terrain. Along the 2.5 km nature trail, there are prepared rest areas, and it is easily accessible with a stroller.
There are two barbecue areas with wind shelters: at Ladkasen along the 3.5 km trail, and at Krusetorpet along the 7 km and 9 km trails.
The trails are maintained by Friluftsfrämjandet, who hope that everyone using them has an enjoyable outing!
Taste Nature’s Pantry or Enjoy the Beautiful Flowers Along the Way
Here you can enjoy nature at your own pace all year round. In spring, you’ll find hepatica, wood anemones, toothwort, lily of the valley, and as everything begins to bloom – harebells, lesser butterfly-orchid, buttercups, self-heal, heather, and much more. In July, blueberries and raspberries begin to ripen, followed by lingonberries in autumn – ready for picking. There are many varieties of mushrooms, but make sure you know which ones are edible. You’ll find everything from chanterelles and different types of boletes to poisonous mushrooms.
Reflector Trails
If you would like to explore nature in the evening, there are two reflector-marked trails near Friluftsfrämjandet’s cabin: a longer route of 7.5 km and a shorter one of 4 km. Both start at the same location.
You can view maps of both reflector trails here:

Öresjö Swimming Areas and Fishing
The nearby Lake Öresjö is very popular among residents of Trollhättan, both for swimming and fishing. There are two swimming areas at the northeastern end of the lake: Munkeboviken and Phoenix. Both have recently been renovated, and a new wooden boardwalk connects them, with barbecue areas along the way.
If you feel like fishing after your walk, the lake is home to pike, perch, ruffe, bream, smelt, and several other species. A fishing permit is required.
