Västra Tunhem lies at the southwestern corner of Hunneberg and is a place with a rich history. Here, you can walk through a fascinating cultural landscape of historic houses, ancient remains, oak pastures and lime kilns. The trail through Västra Tunhem is 3.5 km long. Some sections have uneven ground, but the route is generally easy to walk.

The car park by Västra Tunhem Church is an excellent starting point for your hike.

Historic sites along the way

The trail passes several interesting places, including Västra Tunhem Church, which dates back to the 12th century. Discover the beautiful oak pastures and historic buildings, such as the Västra Tunhem local heritage centre and the old vicarage.

Along the path between Västra Tunhem Church and the vicarage, you will see a series of openings in the rock. These are old limestone mines, remnants of the shale and limestone extraction that took place for many centuries along the foot of Hunneberg. Please note: There is a significant risk of rockfalls inside the mine tunnels, so you must not enter them.
