The Murals

In the summer of 2023, Forum Vänersborg and Artscape, together with their partners, invited leading mural artists to take part in a world-class street art project. During two weeks filled with creativity and artistic expression, nine large-scale murals were painted on selected building façades throughout the city. Using brushes, spray cans and rollers, the artists transformed ordinary walls into striking new landmarks.

Nine façades across Vänersborg were given a completely new look, now adorned with outstanding works of public art. Artscape returned in 2024, when three additional murals were created, followed by four more murals in 2025.

Today, there are 16 murals to discover throughout the Municipality of Vänersborg.

About Artscape

Artscape is a non-profit organisation dedicated to inspiring people and making public art accessible to everyone. Its work promotes social sustainability, equality, cultural diversity—and, of course, exceptional art.

Artscape Vänersborg was launched in 2023 with the goal of enriching the city's public spaces through art. Nine walls were transformed into murals by international artists working in collaboration with local writers. As part of the project's unique "Chinese whispers" concept, each artist interprets a writer's text into a mural without ever seeing the original artwork that inspired it.

The project continued in 2024 and 2025, adding new murals through collaborations between Artscape, property owners, the municipality and local businesses.
