Village Hall in Beautiful Vänersnäs Hosting Events All Year Round

Welcome to the Village Hall Association in Vänersnäs. Here, events like Midsummer celebrations, Christmas markets, and the popular Vänersnäsloppet Mountainbike race are organized.

History

The first permanent school within the parish was built in 1846 on the slope below the current village hall. The land was donated by the then-owner of Frugården, Count Posse, and the school was named Orebergs School. Education was conducted in this older building until 1903.

Due to the increasing number of children, a decision was made to construct a new building (the current village hall). The building housed a schoolroom of approximately 70 square meters, a changing room, and a teacher's residence. This new building served as a school until the year 1940 when the school's teacher was drafted, and a substitute could not be found. The students were then divided between the two newly established schools in Vänersnäs (Olofstorp and Eriksdal).

In the following years, the building was used as a place of worship (the church burned down in February 1941), a military barracks, and a municipal meeting place. The smaller building, which is now used as an artist's studio, was previously a post office, a library, and a home guard facility.

On November 23, 1953, interested individuals from the local organizations gathered to discuss the possibility of forming a village hall association. An interim board was formed with Hjalmar Högberg as chairman and Arne Johansson as secretary.

On April 9, 1954, the formal decision to establish the Vänersnäs Village Hall Association was made. The Municipal Council of Västra Tunhem Municipality decided on May 20, 1955, to donate the property to the village hall association. The village hall was inaugurated for its intended purpose on November 3, 1956, after some renovation work.
