Roadtrip Trollhättan-Vänersborg-Dalsland

Hop in the car, put on a classic in the speaker and explore the best of Trollhättan Vänersborg! If you strive to get rich in exciting experiences and collect many in one weekend - you've come to the right place.

With the car to transport you shorter distances between destinations, we guide you to local flavors, nature, city environments and hidden and less hidden grains of gold! Here we serve a ready-made plan for your weekend in our cities - but of course you can cut and paste exactly as you wish. Let us inspire you with how you can get the best and most out of both Trollhättan, Vänersborg and Dalsland!

Day 1 - A full day in Trollhättan

Stop 1 - Start the day with a classic
Start the day in the Locks area, a place surrounded by beautiful nature, walking paths and the occasional boat in the lock. Here it's perfect to start with a morning coffee, so pop into one of the patisseries in town before you head towards the locks. Have you heard of the Crocodile? A sweet that is typical of Trollhättan, absolutely a real hit for the sweet tooth.

In the lock area, there is also the Lock Café (during the summer months) on a small hill, where you can enjoy a cup of coffee, an ice cream, or perhaps something sweet. Together with this, you pack a picnic blanket and settle down in the Gamle Dal nature area for a lovely morning.

Stop 2 - Roll into the world of cars
After a while out in the fresh air, it is now time to absorb history of a different kind. Inside the Saab Car Museum you will find all kinds of Saab models, the very first ones that were produced but also the very last ones that were never allowed to get out and try on the roads. The museum is of course a hit for the enthusiast, but also draws the interest of the curious visitor.

Stop 3 - A moment by the lake and countryside
The next stop is idyllic Öresjö, a lake with many bays, headlands and islands. First, stop on the way at Kakerian for a light lunch or coffee - eat on site or take away and eat at one of the nice seats by Öresjö. After some lunch, it's time to alternate some different activities.

Take the chance to ride a horse and carriage with Nordsvenska Upplevelser and experience how the horse was used in the past, maybe you can try pulling a log? Or are you more keen to get out on the water? At Metholmens Kajak, you can slide along a mirror-like lake in a kayak, or test your balance on a SUP.

Stop 4 - Harmonious and cozy or rocking end to the day?
As evening approaches, it's time to go restaurant hunting, where there is a wide range to choose from. At Majo Bar & Restaurant you will find well-composed drinks and modern tapas dishes. Or are you looking for a slightly rougher place like Backstage rock bar for a good burger? If you're lucky, there might be a rock band on stage, or a quiz to compete in.

Day 2 - Time to explore cozy Vänersborg

Stop 1 - Out in nature in Ecopark Halle- and Hunneberg
After breakfast, it's time to roll on to Vänersborg. Pack a lunch bag or your favorites for the barbecue and go up to Ekopark Halle- and Hunneberg. You choose which mountain you want to explore today, and regardless, you can enjoy your stay for a few hours.

We recommend parking at the King's kitchen (Kungens Kök) by Hallsjön on Halleberg and walking around Hallsjön (5 km) where there are plenty of barbecue areas and wind shelters for a cozy moment by the lake. If you want to get even more out of the mountains, you can go on to Hallesnipen and the Predikstolen viewpoint where Lake Vänern spreads out in front of your feet - probably the best view in Vänersborg!

  • TIP! Use the hiking map to find your way around the mountains (the map is in swedish, english and german, you can also purchase it at the Tourist Center).

Stop 2 - Recharge your energy in the Björkås park
After the adventure in the mountains, a coffee break may be needed. Not far from the mountains you will find Björkåsparken, a real little gem in Vargön. In addition to nice walks and nature, there is also Café Villa Björkås, which offers everything from steaming freshly baked waffles with jam and cream to cakes, pastries and sandwiches. Relax and replenish your energy.

Stop 3 - Hang out and explore Restad Gård
Move on towards Restad gård, a beautiful area with many possibilities. Restad gård has an activity park, sculpture park and a cultural park, something for everyone, quite simply. Here you can, for example, play Frisbee golf, see mighty sculptures or take in history. The large green park has plenty of space to relax and nice walking paths along the water.

Stop 4 - End the day with quality food
In the evening, you can treat yourself to a good meal with a clear conscience. Well worth a visit is Winnie's Kitchen n' Comfort, known for their good food with local ingredients. There is also Winnie Lane Bowling n' Bar under the same roof, where you can challenge each other in bowling and other activities or have a drink at the bar.

Folkets hus, which is also located in central Vänersborg, also has good food - and maybe there's a quiz night or a live band when you're there?

Day 3 - Back to nature in Dalsland

Head towards Dalsland's beautiful nature - let's go straight back to nature and fill up on fresh air and wonderful energy.

Stop 1 - Walk with cute alpacas
Only 15 minutes' drive from Vänersborg you will find the fantastic Flybo farm and Dalsland's alpacas - where it is teeming with woolly alpacas and other animals. Book a walk or guided tour - and don't forget to get something nice from the farm shop. Here you can also have a good coffee in the garden.

Stop 2 - Eat well in the raspberry cafe at Evenstorp's farm
If you are here during the summer, take the opportunity to drive further into Dalsland until you meet the wonderful atmosphere of Evenstorp - the farm that grows its own organic rhubarb and raspberries. Here you can have a really cozy moment and meet several different kinds of animals such as mini goats, cows, pigs and rabbits. In the café, you can taste delicious treats such as homemade cakes and waffles with the farm's raspberry jam.
