The history of Olofsbygget

In 1966, Olofsbygget was threatened by forestry operations. Forest was to be planted on the site and the old cottage was in the way. The cottage would either have to be moved or burned down. As a result, Håcksvik Hembygdsförening, decided to buy the cottage in 1966 and move it to its present location, near the village hall. The price for the cottage was SEK 100.

During the relocation, the foundation stones were taken, but the stove had to be re-manufactured; even the chimney, the door to the baking oven, the stove rod, ceiling, the roof ridges and roof boards had to be replaces. Some fixtures were moved with the building, but society members have also donated furniture and textiles typical of the era.

In an old fairytale about an old couple. The old man ties the cow up on the roof of the cottage, because there is plenty for the cow to eat. In summer, a peat roof is a miniature garden of grass and herbs. Such a roof can be seen on Olofsbygget, perhaps with a cow on grazing on top?

The café is open during the summer

Enjoy a cup of coffee and a sweet treat at Olofsbygget this summer. See the society's website for current opening times.
