Walk in the area around the Göta Canal

Discover the Göta Canal on foot, as well as all the beautiful nature areas nearby. The history here is fascinating and there are spectacular views of forests and waterways.

The area between Sweden's two largest lakes, Vänern and Vättern, can offer wonderful experiences for beginners as well as more experienced adventurers.

35 km, easy

The Göta Canal

The best thing about the Göta Canal is the number of options available for exploring the area, not only from the water. You can walk or cycle along the gravel towpath (35 kilometres). The whole family can enjoy the canal setting with its locks, boat life and many inviting cafés and restaurants.

14 km, moderate

Brommö Path

The island of Brommö is in the archipelago in lake Vänern, just off Mariestad. There is an 14 kilometre long path here that takes you through the wild blueberry forests with good swimming options, both from smooth rocks and sandy beaches. Perfect for a day trip, but remember to bring your picnic basket!
