Accommodation – small scale with a focus on taking care the environment

At this family owned eco-hotel accommodation is simple but comfortable. Choose between single, twin or family rooms, all with own toilet, shower and entrance to the great outdoors. There are hens in the area and during summer you can pick berries and pet the sheep grazing in the garden.

Some of the things that make the accommodation climate smart:

  • Solar panels provide all the electricity needed per year.
  • Own well, purifying plant and sewage disposal.
  • Water efficient fixtures.

The best time to visit Lugnåsberget Ekohotell is March-June and September-October.

Activities – Nature, relaxation and history

There are several ways to get active at Lugnåsberget, all with a focus on nature.

Hike

  • Stenhuggarstigen (the Stonecutter Trail) is a lovely 6 km trail with information about the hill’s history.
  • The Biosphere Trail between Läckö and Mariestad passes outide the eco-hotel.
  • There are several trails in the Qvarnstensgruvan (the Millstone Quarry) nature reserve – open during summer with museum and guided tours.

Cycle and paddle

  • The Vänerleden cycle trail passes 7 km from the eco-hotel (stage 4 between Mariestad and Lidköping).
  • Paddle canoes in Lake Vristulven. The canoe is driven to the lake with electric car and trailer.

Relax

  • There’s a wood fired sauna in the eco hotel.
  • There are several grill areas where you can light a cosy camp fire in the evening.
  • Lovely natural swimming area in Lake Vristulven, 5 km from Lugnåsberget.

Qvarnstensgruvan museum

Go on a guided tour into the mine and see the museum’s exhibition about the history of the place, which was used extensively for millstone quarrying. Guided tours can be booked all year round.

Food – mostly home produced

At Lugnåsberget Ekohotell you can enjoy simple and tasty food where as much as possible is made from our own produce. Anything else not from our farm is Swedish, local, organic and fairtrade. All meals are served to our guests in baskets so you’re free to eat whenever it suits you.

Some examples of our own products:

  • Berries are picked in the summer and can be enjoyed all year round, with the same flavour of summer.
  • Home baked bread with homemade jams and conserves.
  • Lambs and cows are needed to graze the land at Lugnåsberget. The meat is smoked at a local charcuterie in Lugnås, 3 km from the eco-hotel.

Transport – How to get here in an environmentally friendly way

Lugnåsberget Ekohotell is less than three hours from Gothenburg and there are several ways to get here with low CO2 emissions.  

Train

The Kinnekulle train stops at Lugnås station, from where you can either walk to the eco-hotel (around 3 km) or book pick up with the hotel’s electric car. The train journey from Gothenburg takes around 2.5 hours and from Stockholm 3.5 hours with one change.

Own electric car

There are three EV chargers at the eco-hotel and if you charge your car during the day electricity comes directly from the solar array.

Hike

Stages 7 and 8 of the Biosphere Trail pass right outside the house.

Cycle

Stage 4 of the Vänerleden Trail between Mariestad and Lidköping can be accessed around 7 km from Ekohotellet. Perfect for anyone who likes cycling holidays!
